Pork or not pork

You see news clips about this all the time. Why are your tax dollars going to fund potato research in Idaho? Or why are your tax dollars going to a mariner museum in Boston? Have you ever dug deeper? You should. Most "pork" goes to help constituents in a district or a state. In our example the potato research is vital to Idaho, ever hear of Idaho potatoes? They want to brand their potatoes as best in the world why shouldn't we help them. Anyway, if a Member is going to spend money to help the district I think they should.

If you want to cut spending, eliminate some of the dead weight. Look at cost overruns on projects, look at under estimation of projects in the budget process. Are we really getting bang for the buck? Are we using the sheer numbers in the federal government to get discounts? Are we holding people accountable, why do we keep paying contractors when they don't hit benchmarks or hit goals. Why do they keep programs with such huge cost overruns? Why does the governemnt reinvent the wheel buy stuff from off the shelf and use it.
