Cry me a river...
Why Me? I got this from browser metric's website because for me it is spot on. I bought a new power book in August. I thought I had the coolest machine then stupid Steve Jobs and his, "One last thing.." Oh well its just something to dream about. My roommate actually has it worse then me. She got her powerbook on Saturday. She's rip shit.

That's alright. They're still in transition. Apple sort of announced something was coming soon. Of course they didn't say when. I looooove Apple, but man are they milking the crap out of everyone. The ipod went through 4 or 5 changes since last year. That's just nuts cause you know they have to plan to design these things. So they know in advance when these products are ready to be introduced. So why have a speed bump on the Powerbooks and a month later introduce the Macbook pro? To screw people that's why. Weak. I love Apple, but man that's lame. Also to have to by a cross grade for FCP is lame. That should be a free plug in.
Anyways, I just ranted. Your roomate shouldn't worry about it. I'm sure it can handle whatever needs to be done. Hell I'm still rock'n the 2001 600 MHz G3 ibook. I even snuck on FCP 4.5 for editing. Granted it takes a year for rendering, but I can do rough cuts on the fly. Besides the current Powerbook has a dual layer disc burner and a firewire 800 port. The Macbook does not have these features. So even though it's faster... it doesn't seem to have certain fuctions to capture it's full potential. Not yet anyways. Unless your an isight freak.
Final conclusion... sucks to be you. I can't wait to test one. =)
The rush of technology will always crush your dreams. When you think you have the latest, you don't. It's like buying a car: as soon as you drive of the lot, BANG, that baby has depreciated.
Love the tech you buy. But don't think that it ain't obsolete. It is.
You think that's bad. How about trying to figure out programming issues for both platforms? What can I do to avoid issues writing to both?
I guess you write for either or. As of right now I guess it's best to optimize for Macintel and work backwards. They say that even with Rosetta that some programs are getting performance hits. There slower then they were on power pcs. If the program required a G5 it most likely won't run at all. They're coming out with universal programs anyways. It's so wierd it seemed so far away and than, BAM! Macintels popping off the shelves in 2 months. Wierd. I hope there as good as they say they are. These new models are better than first gen G5s!
But it's true. It's a curse and a blessing that technology keeps evolving. Either way anything that is out now should handle just about anything. It's mainly about time management.
