DC Restaurant Review: 2 Amy's

My neighborhood has great food. Spices is never bad. Yanni's is classic CP. Cactus Cantina not withstanding the children is always awesome. Sushi Sushi is better then average which trumps most of DC's sushi. Added to this list is 2 Amy's. If you have never been you are missing out. This place is certified as authentic neopolitan pizza or DOC (dont ask me its some Italian certification). The food is as if you were in Italy riding along in your Vespa heading to... shit who cares the pizza kicks ass.

So my Cousin from Hawaii is in town and we were going to hang out and get some gnosh...it was between Les Halles and 2 Amy's. I love having my family around they make me very happy. There were ten of us so we basically ordered everything.

Boar sausage: Spicy with some hard cheese. i thought the pairing was too strong. I dont know if they have to hide the
gameiness so much. It was novel but overwhelmed by spices.

Pork Rillettes: Think spam with pork fat or as they told me pork pate. I dont know why i eat pate and foie gras its pretentious...oh wait it still tastes awesome. The table kept calling it spam, which when fried with rice is a meal for a king, but in this case it was spam-tatstic.

Potata Fritatta: This stand by is great. A must if you go. Its eggs and potato in pie slice form with a spicy sauce. Not as good as a spanish tortilla but right up there.

Olives: I took one for the team here. I hate olives but i tried anyway. Still hate them so I cat tell you if they were good or not. The table cleared them so the must be good.

Deviled Eggs: Im not sure who came up with this and i dont understand why we American dumb it down or more to the point dont spice it up is a mystery. these coem with a pesto sauce that should be served on its own with a loaf of bread. I find the pesto again overpowers the subtle creaminess of deviled eggs. this is great if you need to ward off Spike or Angel.

Pizza: They have everything. I'm a Norcia fan, mozzeralla, roasted pepers and salami which is great. Im one to pile on meats and onions and mushrooms ands peppers on pizza and the Norcia is a great meal. The roasted peppers carries this pizza to favorite status. But I was blown away by the simple margharita. This is why 2 Amy's has DOC status. It is lite and airy, subtle with a hint of sweetnees. Perfect. Why cant delivery or frozen pizza be like this place.


The bad 2 Amy's
Coffee: Crap. Its hard tp figure out whats better crap coffee or overly sugared and whipped creamed starbucks. Just once i want good coffee. Restaurants should go to Murky's or Jay's and have a barista who can teach them...shit use a press for crap sake! How hard is that.

Crowd: Good luck if you are a group. Just be ready to wait and wait and wait,
