DC Restaurant Review: Sonoma

Best Restaurant on the Hill is an elusive and monumental title. Is it Tortilla Coast or is it Two Quails??? Neither those places are all crap.

Food on the Hill is rather crappy. I mean besides Hunan the affordable range restaurants are pathetic. It's like the Hill Restaurants purposely took away all taste and flavor of their food and replaced it with happy hour fish nuggets.

Is there anywhere decent to eat...of course there is...this is DC. I could go on and list them but I am going to review them one at a time. Today I went to Sonoma. I had lunch with a contemporary who has everything that I should have. He just got engaged is in process of buying a place and has a successful well paying job. I have a wicked cool car and every electronic gadget in the world...so it all evens out in the end.

Anyway, this is the sister restaurant to Mendocino Grill. (A favorite of Capitol Swell) The first time I went to Sonoma I was impressed but the portions were confusingly small. Coming off the era of massive steak meals, these sensible, quality portions threw my culinary senses into a blender set for puree. I was thrown by the portions (tiny) but the food is great. Organis fresh ingredients with a little Northern Californian flare. I had the gnochi with goat chesse and a kobe burger. A simple lunch made great with fresh ingredients.

Now the coffee...it sucked...well not really I didn't have a cup. I've learned my lesson.

DC Scale: A suspension bill everyone likes it and it is not offensive.
