Top Kofte: Levantes v Moby Dicks

Tonight I went to dinner at Levante's. I have reviewed this place in the past and its a nice restaurant. The fresh baked bread is awesome and the service is always attenative. Tonight, I am comapring it to Moby Dicks a chain kebob shop here in DC.

Im going to dig deeper and compare like dishes and desserts. This episode if Kofte, a ground beef with Mediterranian spices dish served in bread, over rice or skewered. I wish I could say that this was a good fight but it was lop-sided and ugly.

Levante's Kofte were like small burgers with boiled rice and red onions. 4 in number, thet were lightly seasoned with salt and pepper and tasted like they were fried. They only way I knew it was middle eastern was because of the restaraunt. It was a bit of a poor showing. I mean use some medeterranian spices or something. Taking the onions, a cut of burger, and tzatiki wasnt bad it just pales in comparison to Moby Dick's.

Moby Dicks it came in two foot long strips on a bed of rice with halved roasted tomatoes and a half piece of bread. The meat alone has a grilled smokey taste that makes it the winner. The bread is made fresh, it is soft and airy but pliable to wrap perfectly around hunks of meat that then can be dipped in tzatiki. Moby's rice is cooked well and with butter. I used to take offense at white rice like uncle ben's and butter but at Moby Dick's their bismati rice with butter rules! The down side are the weight staff and if you dont in store you dont get the shaker with the spiceyness.

Moby's hands down is the winner. Top Kofte!

Did you kick and scream and pout about going to Levantes? Because I seem to remember that happening on more than one occassion.
