Actually you cant limit yourself to three must haves from patagonia. Its impossible. Patagonia is the greatest clothing manufacturer on planet earth. Eco -friendly gear designed for the long hike, sessioning, kicking back and making your way thru a vacation or trek. For as long as I remebr we had patagonia clothes. The original snap-t synchilla was from patagonia. Between my brothers and I think we covered the spectrum from wind breaker to technical sailing shell to frigid ice treking layered clothes. I recently bought a HH jacket and it is OK but I havent had the hcance to run it thru the shit to see how it comes out. I am on a bit of an eco-friendly kick, organic cotton, recycled products etc...so what must you have from patagonia.
1. The MLC- maximum legal carry-on. i have one in the old green and it has been all over the world. It can cover a long weekend to a 10 day vacation. It doesnt tear form luggage handlers, you dont look like a rollie bag drone, it surprisingly can pack a ton of clothes, and can convert from luggge to a pack. You can use it as a pillow or an ottoman and can squish to fit anywhere.
2. Contienantal Shorts-- Unfortuantely these are cyclical shorts so when they are out snap them up. But they are long shorts, with two side pockets one zippered the other velcroed with drainage at the bottom. Water repellant and packable, can cover beach wear and also be dressed up for more formal occassions.
3. Snap T-- This ubiquitious item is now made from recycled goods. Goes from the beach to an evening out to a base layer for cold days. the one item that is a foundation piece for an activity.

While the MLC is nice, the modern traveller NEEDS a rollon bag. It's de rigeur. It's a MUST.
God knows I would be pissed to actually carry all my onboard baggage on my shoulder.
+1 for anything Synchilla.
