Notes on Dad

Tomorrow is the anniversary of my dad's passing. I want to share some dad memories stories with you all.

Right now I am stuck on a picture of my mom and dad on our vacationin the Bahamas. My dad had on resort wear of the ugliest order. I mean matching pants, sandals and a Greg Norman Shark straw hat. It was ugly. My dad took us everywhere, everywhere. He was great at exposing us to the world. But man he had ugly clothes. I was always really embarassed by his clothes but you know what my dad never cared. he was too into looking at the sites eating the food and seeing everything the world had to offer. The millions of pictures of my dad his arms strecthed out in front of the Louvre, the baseball hall of fame, the Atlanta underground, at our house in Spain. He was saying look at what i get to give to my famliy and look what it get to see.

We would roam, we would tour, we walked up and down everything.

Man the only seeing he never saw which he wanted to see more then anything was a safari. I remember talking to my mom and she said if he every really pushed they could have gone but my mom had no interest in it.

I miss my dad. He was cool. He was all about making his family happy. he wasnt pretentious or wrapped in vanity. On occasion he would surprise us with a new car but what the hell. He came and saw me at work once. It was one of my favorite days. My dad was beaming when he met with Gene. The two talked about how their sons liked to surf.

I didn't know your dad too well -- only the yearly UE reunions my parents would drag me to. I remember, though, that my dad adored him, and enjoyed his company so so much. I wish I could have seen more of his funny outfits.
