Restaurant Review: Petite Louis

We took mom out for mother's day to Petit Louis. Petite Louis is a little french bistro in Roland Park. Part of the Cindy Wolf empire. Very french, a little bar up front with a nice zinc bar, the dining room can get packed quickly. Browser and I started the brunch with tasty bloodies. They use fresh tomaoto juice and a pepperry slurry and vodka. It tasted great and i had a wine hangover so this helped to cut it. I love a good bloody. We talked speed racer.

The dining room was packed and it smelled of buttery garlicy escargot that smell sent wafting through the dining room really geared up my appetite. I have been to a number of bistros so i get the same meal o compare with other french eateries. I had onion soup and duck confit, browser had onion soup and roasted chicken, and mom had eggplant tartine and flank steak. The onion soup was cheesy with a lite but flavorful broth with nice onions and hunks of bread. I enjoyed this soup, it wasnt overwhelming or too cheesy. It was tasty, simple and really set the mood for my duck. The duck conft was larger then most, it was fall off the bone good with a orange gastric that was subtle. I was a little disappointed that the skin wasnt as crispy as i like. They should pull the skin and fry it and then reapply to the meal. Browser enjoyed his chicken, i thought it was going to be a half chicken well It was but it was deboned and came with fresh chips which were tasty. Mom eggplant tartine rocked, the eggplant was crispy and the tomato and goat cheese were well balanced. Her flank steak was ok, i mean it is flank steak. We also had frites for the table which will never compare to Les Halles and were overly salty.

For dessert we had creme carmel and orange ice cream. I didnt get to try the orange ice cream but come on orange in ice cream form is going to rule. The creme caramel was dubbed by the waiter to be the best in the area. When i think creme caramel i think flan, and more specifically Jay's Mom's flan which kicks ass. Her flan is creamy and rich and one bite makes you melt. The creme caramel at Petite Louis was tasty but heavier and thicker then i am use to. I think creme caramel should be lite.so i was disappointed.

The service was attentive, my water glass and coffee cup were never empty.

Petite Louis is a good french bistro. Its not in the hippest location but as a neighborhood bistro it does well for itself.

I liked the chicken which they described as "pan roasted," but I was surprised at the price for such a meager and simple dish.

The fries were similar to the corner stable!

The water was always at our table in the pitcher.

Nice place to eat.
