"It's a heart stoppingly good burger. Right off the grill cooked medium rare and you add bacon which makes a good burger deadly good."- Capitol Swell
So Hokie Girl and I went to Good Stuff Eatery, Spike of Top Chef fame's new restaurant. It was packed and we had a bit of a wait before we got in. Spike's dad greeted us outside and when we were ushered in where we had another ordering line and wait. The line moved slowly until a second register was opened and then it ran fairly smoothly. While you are in the order line you can watch the cooks create burgers. Because this place is about volumn they do keep some burgers under heat lamps. Spike is in the front of the restaurent dolling out everyone's order. he'll take a picture with you and he orders the staff around to get things clicking. After ordering it is atmost a five minute wait for food. They have different dipping sauces for the fries mostly based in may with spices like old bay added to them.
I ordered the double bacon cheeseburger to avoid the heat lamp, HG got a regualr cheeseburger and then we split fries and rings and two cokes. The restaurant has seating for about 50 people maybe a bit more. During lunch we were able to find a table. the two duchebags next to us left their table a mess when they left which is so terribly rude.
The brugers are fresh and cooked medium rare but when you add their good stuff sauce a leaf of lettuce, tomatoes, pickles then the burger becomes messy. The bacon was nicely cooked and smoky, the american cheese was well american cheese but when melted helps to hold the burger and toppings in place. I think the burger can use a little more salt and pepper. My burger was good, its a bit like 5 Guys just medium rare. Stick with single patty fare and it should be so messy. HG sad her burger was good but her lettuce and tomato were warm, which is gross in my opinion.
Fries and rings are my favorite. The onion rings are like a chopped up blooming onion. This is a great idea, so you don't have the onion ring debacle of biting down and pullint out the onion and leaving the breading. The fries were yummy, they have village fries with thyme and rosemary which were excellent. These items while greasy were excellent.
They sell shakes, hand spun, didn't get the chance to try one.
What Can I say, its a burger joint. thank God it is a fresh patty, fresh fries and rings. I'm going to go back and try other things, so I guess right now the draws are Spike and the onion rings.

I want a bruger. Sounds neat. Is it German? Was it invented by Hans Bruger, who is not by any chance related to the incident at Nakatomi Plaza.
