Forrest Gump in India, does that really deserve an Oscar. I don't think so. What the movie lacked was anticipation. I never once believed that the kid would lose. I knew he was going to win and so all the cute stories and coincidences didn't matter.
However, what realy disturbs me is the trend in U.S. movies, musicals or the bollywoodization. Please dont bring back the musical. High School the Musical has gateway-drugged teens and their parents, what's next a Dazed and Confused musical to get slackers and 20 somethings. I can see it now a shirtless Matthew McConnaughey bongo drumming and dancing with rows of other tie dyed slackers grooving and singing to woo a group of hotties led by Megan Fox. Ughh
I blame Slum Dog it is a transition movie. It gives US audiences a new comfort level with Indian movies than next thing you now everyone is looking to India for inspiration and then its all bollywood all the time. Maybe we can have a Saving Private Ryan the musical. You can already see the creeping of bollywood look at my Joss Whedon he is pushing bollywood type-movies on us. The last season of Buffy the Vampire Slayer had a musical episode. Whedon also created Dr Horrible's Sing Along Blog. Then Scrubs did a musical episode.
Slum Dog will blow the doors open to the US and Bollywood is going to invade. Stop SLum Dog save movies!
