Recess is like going through Rehab

I've been in DC for about a decade. I have worked on or with the Hill for about nine years. The hardest thing for a staffer, especially a staffer without a trip is recess. I have done my mail, returned every call, started new projects but the pace is too slow. I mean snails crawl. I mean if things do not pick up soon I might go nuts. The problem is that Hill jobs are hurry up and wait, then you add the element of a Member of Congress, trying to kick the crap out of the Republicans, trying to answer sometimes belligerant constituents, sometimes mollifying angry leadership staff, running to hearings, reading through pages of legislation before a vote in an hour, and writing memos on every issue in the newspaper to keep the staff and Member up to date. You add all of that and press calls and your day is a whirlwind of activity to which you get addicted. I think it is the action and power that is addicting. It's an adrenaline rush coupled with trying to do what's best with the country. Working on the Hill satisfy so many desires and dreams that it makes it hard when you are in recess. I guess this is why I can post so much crap.

That was a nice little article. Your site is actually reading like a real site. Unlike my nonsense. =)
