DC Restaurant Review: Cactus Cantina

Tex-Mex isnt haute cuisine, but none the less this is the best food in DC. They have a sister restaurant that's all posh but the food is the same, Lorieal Plaza. How can tex-mex be haute cuisine, well it cant i guess but the food is tasty and savory and consistantly good. In my ten years I have eaten here about a million times and the food has always been perfect.

My friend from LA was in town. I need to stop talking to my Cali friends they make me want to move. She lives in the Miracle mile.

The Guacamole is fresh, not made table side but still good and tons of it. The chips are always coming out and the salsa is smokey and chipotley. Its awesome.

The food runs the spectrum the carne asada is tops. Huge steak, perfectly marinated and tender. The only knock i have against this place is that the tortilas are too bisquiky. Bust out some corn tortillas and some limes with the food. Rice and charra beans come with simple but not bad. I ususally get puerco masitas some tender chunks of pork that rule with black beans and white rice. I could eat thise everday. If you are looking for basic tex-mex the enchialdas are awesome cheese and beef enchiladas cant be beat. The chimichangas are good. The tacos are ok. Shrimp fajitas are awesome but what we need are fish tacos!

W gets take out from here, so it must be good. If you dont like his thinking listen to anyone from the neigborhood like me. This place rules. There is no need for Taco Bell, Chipotle, Qudoba, Baja Fresh, Mo's or whatever Tex-Mex you have. This place destroys horrible Alero's znd pummels Rosa Mexicana, while not authentico mexican you will never be disappointed.
