My counterpart from an asian embassy always wants to have sushi, he pronounces is suzy suzy. What is the best sushi in DC, we know what the oldest or most venerable (sushi ko), we know the best and cheapest (kotobuli) but what cuisine reigns supreme? I like a mix is my sushi place, great fatty tuna, salty edmame, some tempura, and a fun mix of funky cool rolls. In LA they have a whole bunch of places that will deep fry a roll and to some that may be gros it really is quite good. Its usually a tempura batter that is quickly fried to not ruin the roll. I also like places with atmosphere, In shanghai there is a japanese restaurant in a mall near the state trade office. It has freshly fried tempura and more fresh sushi that will make you scream... there is a similar palce in Cleveland Park...its called sushi sushi..zagat says its a neighborhood sushi palce but it is much more...
Sushi Sushi has nice fresh fish and everything is made fresh. What was suppsoed to be sushi and a movie turned into sushi and relationship analysis hell. For an appetizer we had veggie and soft shell crab tempura. For sushi we had sake, tamago, ebi unagi, toro, cali roll, cali roll fresh crab meat, spider roll, tekka maki, shrimp tempura roll, and Sunny delight roll. It was all fresh and huge pieces. Poeple say toro is the indicator of good sushi I say ot is how one delas with tamago that shows a sushi joints real talent. Ha ha ha ha just joking..but i really do like that sweet egg omelet it is tasty. In baltimore we have a dynamite roll that rules all rolls, or one roll to rule them all. Dc doenst have that, DC needs a good roll and my choice is the sunny dleight roll...tuna, shrimp tempura, avacodo rol with salmon on the outside with a citrus sauce...super good. What about the toro it was fatt but not the melt in your mouth good that i crave.
Not to balst people and sushi eating habot but please rememebr sushi is about fish..do not drown the fish in soy, or over burden the soy with wasabi, deep the fish in the soy lightly and pop it in your mouth. donot break in half....argghhhhhh.
sorry, while not thebest review sushi sushi is good and cheap and tasty.

my favorite is sushi toro in dupont (fresh fresh sushi, sweet unfiltered sakes, other very authentic japanese stuff like bbq tongue and yakitori, plus unique daily specials). atmosphere is always lively and fun. other good one is murasaki in tenleytown for super fresh sushi, including white tuna. they also have yummo black sesame ice cream. dammit, i'm hungry.
