Leonard
"Our children would be beautiful and smart"
Sheldon
"And Imaginery"
The guy who played "David" in Roseanne plays a super geek scientist from Cal-Tech, Leonard, who lives with an equally geeky factually oriented, I'm smarter then thou, room mate named Sheldon. Enter, or moves in the love interest, Penny, a button cute blonde who is writing a script and waitressing at the Cheesecaek factory. Basically idosyncratic super geeks have a hard time relating to average Jane. What plays out are your typical geek relating to a cute girl jokes. They invite her over for some Indian food but the geeks discuss curry as a natural laxative while standing in front of Penny as they try to invite her over. When she asks what they do for fun they discuss Klingon Boggle. There are also they cute girl easily manipulating guy routines. She has just broken up with super macho guy and asks the geeks to get her TV back and they eagerly comply, well Leonard eagerly complies because of his crush on Penny and drags along Sheldon who disects the motives of Leonard's actions. Of course they fail and get pantsed in the process. They come back pantsless but get hugs and kisses anyway. Will the geek get the girl?
The question is should you stay tuned? The show comes on before "How I Met your Mother" which is hilarious and after "Two and a Half Men" which is funny too. The jokes are there but sometimes they feel forced. The characters can grow on you and if you like cheernging for the geek to prevail, then this show might be for you. Or if you are a geek and hate having to dumb things down for everybody then this show can be funny. CBS has never had the right line up with "Two and a Half Men" and "How I Met Your Mother" being right next to eash other in their schedule and this could help transition people.
The Big Bang Theory isnt the smartest show on TV, it isnt the funniest but it doesnt suck either. If they can develop the characters more, show the complexity of geeks and show how the obsession with Bobba Fett is like waiting for Barry Binds to break the home run record, and develop a real reason for the girl to start liking the guy and not just because he is a nice guy, then the show will work. otherwise it is maybe two seasons of geek trying to get the girl to like him jokes.

I have to admit I didn't really like it, yet I couldn't stop watching it. I don't know what it was but they didn't seem like inteligent people who would be called "nerds" in this society. They seemed more like emo hipsters with no social skills and a large vocab. They also talk like 1950's robots. =) But like I said I was curiously drawn to it. Kind of like when I watched Scooby Doo the movie.
Chuck is another annoying looking show. That guy a geek? He's the new Dax Zac dude on the block. He looks more like a "jock".
PS. I'm becoming an old grumpy man.
