A boy and girl who grow up together, bouncing back and forth between friends and dating, and years at Duke University, finally we get to present day and they both end up in Washington DC. The guy an oil industry scientist turned environmental activists. The woman born from hippie parents is a Republican turk wanting smaller, less intrusive and less wasteful government. A mistake at the Realtors puts them both in the same two bedroom condo on South Capitol Street. While their ideas on issues clash, they bond over their obsession with Duke basketball. Fellow environmental lobbyist clash with the Congresswoman's staff and Republican Leadership. They try and chart a middle path but the need to be right sometimes unravels their progress especially under the Hill's constant rhetorical political barbs.
Scene opens, man looking at a blackberry screen. On the screen you see a forwarded message from MoveOn.org, a man's hand types: "You all really don't care about anything. Duke v Carolina tonight want to order a pizza?" Sends the message and looks up at a hearing in progress. Cut to a Congresswoman on the dais at a hearing on bank bailout. She is looking down reading talking point in 16 point Arial. "Too much regulation freezes investment. We need to get investors investing" there is a vibration from underneath her briefing binder. She grabs her blackberry. It reads, "You all really don't care about anything. Duke v Carolina tonight want to order a pizza?" As she types. pan over to the Chairman, "The Chair recognizes Congresswoman Harris for five minutes." She smiles and says into her mic "Let's go Duke!" In the audience the man looking up grins.
